LGBTQ Inclusive: Implementing Organization Development Initiatives

This interactive session will explore strategies for building and implementing organization development (OD) initiatives and evaluations that are inclusive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people and communities. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about how to shape LGBTQ inclusive questions, conceptual and theoretical OD frameworks, and methodological approaches, as appropriate in their given professional contexts. Participants will leave this session with language, tools, and resources for LGBTQ inclusive OD that situates LGBTQ experiences as unique and essential to addressing individual, organizational, and societal challenges.


Dr. Joshua Collins is an Assistant Professor of Human Resource Development and Graduate and Affiliate Faculty in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He is the recipient of several awards recognizing his contributions to critical and social justice oriented organizational research, including the Academy of Human Resource Development’s Early Career Scholar Award and the Assistant Professor Award given by the University Council for Workforce and Human Resource Education. His work focuses on the challenges associated with learning and work for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people, people of color, and other minority groups. Most recently, he was awarded a $138,000 grant by the Minnesota Department of Transportation the Minnesota Local Road Research Board as a co-investigator exploring factors contributing to key workforce shortages, including those factors which may be related to demography, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
